A three-match friendly cricket series was played between
the two teams consisting of PointCricket members on Saturday,
19th January 2008 at Arabian Sea Country Club, Karachi. As the
day progressed from a chilly morning to a warm afternoon, the entire
event was thoroughly enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
Match 1 - Lions draw first blood
Lions' captain Khalil won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Rafay
played well for his 21, making full use of some sloppy fielding
by the Bulls. Late improvisation by Shahid stretched the total to
96 runs of allotted 10 overs. In reply, controlled bowling from
Lions restricted Bulls to 77. Mohammad Affan was the only notable
scorer as Lions won by 19 runs.
Match 2 - Bulls level series with clinical performance
Bulls' captain Omais won the toss and batted first. A steady partnership
between Rehan (19) and Zeeshan (15) kept Bulls on track. A couple
of lusty blows from Shafi added respectability to their total. Chasing
87 to win, Lions lost wickets regularly. Only Wajih and Tariq entered
double-figures as Bulls levelled the series with a 27-run win. Zeeshan
(3 wkts) and Haziq (2 wkts) starred with the ball.
Match 3 - Zeeshan spearheads Bulls to series triumph
The match was reduced to 7 overs each to make it even more exciting.
After a slow start, Lions accelerated brilliantly with Shahid once
again smashing two huge sixes. Hayyan bowled well for his two wickets.
Set 68 to win in 7 overs and chasing not easy as seen in the earlier
matches, the task was a huge challenge for Bulls. However, Bulls'
Zeeshan had other ideas as he smashed seven sixes on his way to
an unbeaten 53. The Bulls won the game in only the 5th over to clinch
the series 2-1. Zeeshan stood out as with his all-round performances
and was named Man-of-the-Series.
The festive atmosphere
The entire series was played in great spirit as players enjoyed
every moment on the field. Off the field, the players, with their
families, shared lighter moments of life while cheering for their
respective sides. The scrumptious lunch, consisting of numerous
local and international delicacies, was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
