Best of 2006: Australia reclaim Ashes in record time
The best of 2006 has to be the reclamation of the Ashes by Australia from England. After holding the Ashes for 13 years, Australia lost the coveted urn in an evenly-contested series in 2005. But this year, Australia regained their pride by reclaiming the Ashes in a series of wins. They have now won the first four test, with the inconsequential rubber scheduled for 2007 . This can be safely termed as the best of 2006 as Australia continued their winning streak, ending up victorious in all their 10 tests this year.

Worst of 2006: The Oval fiasco
Pakistan’s tour to England was rocked by the most controversial incident in the last five years or so. During the fourth test match at Brit Oval, the umpires, Darrel Hair and Billy Doctrove accused Pakistan of ball tampering. The game was then called off after Pakistan team refused to take field in protest and, for the fist time in test history, a team was disqualified and the match was awarded to England. Though the ICC, after disciplinary hearings, cleared Pakistan of ball tampering charges, the incident can easily be classified as the worst of 2006.

Darrell Hair was the central figure behind all the controversy at The Oval
