Starting from Season 25, a new rule has been added to PointCricket Fantasy Contest. As an incentive to those members who participate through all the weeks of the season, this rule, called the 'n-1 rule' (n minus one rule) has been introduced.

With this rule, all those members who participate from Week 1 of a season will have their one lowest-scoring week not counted in their total points and no. of active weeks. As a result, they have a chance of improving their performance even if their team performs poorly in a certain week.

Let's explain this rule with an example for easier understanding. Currently, from the week a member makes his team, all the following weeks are also counted. However, with this rule, members who make their teams from Week 1 will have one bad week removed from their total.

Suppose a member 'M' makes his team from Week 1. Supposing he perfroms poorly in say, Week 5 with only 500 points. Assuming the season is spread over 10 weeks, at the end of the season M will have 9 active weeks and his score of 500 (which is his lowest among all the weeks' scores) will not be included in his total. As a result, his APPW will not be that greatly affected by one poor week. This (n-1) rule is applicable for only those members who make their teams for Week 1.

However, if another member P starts the season from Week 2, he will not have the (n-1) option available. He will have 9 active weeks at the end of the season and all scores from Week 2 and onwards will be counted in the total. His lowest-scoring week will not be eliminated. If a member has not made his team for Week 1, the (n-1) rule does not apply to him.

A better representation is given below:

Member M:

Week 1: 1000 points

Week 2: 1000 points

Week 3: 1000 points

Week 4: 1000 points

Week 5: 500 points

Week 6: 1000 points

Week 7: 1000 points

Week 8: 1000 points

Week 9: 1000 points

Week 10: 1000 points

As you can see from the above list, M has scored the lowest points in Week 5. With the introduction of this rule, his total points will now include the points scored in all weeks except Week 5. As a result, his total points will now be 9000 instead of 9500 (as the lowest scoring week has been excluded). His active no. of weeks will now be 9 instead of 10 (as Week 5 has been excluded). And his APPW will therefore be 9000/9=1000 instead of 9500/10=950.

Now looking at the other member P who does not make his team for Week 1:

Member P:

Week 1: No Team

Week 2: 1000 points

Week 3: 1000 points

Week 4: 1000 points

Week 5: 500 points

Week 6: 1000 points

Week 7: 1000 points

Week 8: 1000 points

Week 9: 1000 points

Week 10: 1000 points

As you can see from the above list, P did not make his team for Week 1. Therefore, despite the introduction of this rule, his total points will include the points scored in all weeks. As a result, his total points will still be 8500 (as the lowest scoring week has not been excluded). His active no. of weeks will still be 9 (as Week 5 has not been excluded). And his APPW will therefore be 8500/9=944.
